Purchasing a Champion Beagle or Puppy
Breeder/Owners of Integrity will encourage any prospective owner to fully research the breed they are thinking of, be it for a pet or show, to be sure it fits well into their thinking and lifestyle.

A Beagle is a hound.  Hounds hunt with either sight or smell.  In AKC, there are various groups of dogs, and that is because each group has distinct jobs to do, or has specific personality types which lend itself to the job the dog was intended for.  A Beagle is a scent hound.  That means by nature it puts it's head down, and hunts.  Some have more intensity than others, but they were bred to hunt rabbit or hare.  (One of my puppy owners also has retrievers, and this beagle has become a fantastic bird dog).  If you do not have an enclosure, you darling little baby will happily hunt until it is a long way from home, or gets hit by a mac-truck.  It is not inclined to be one of the working type dogs which loves discipline.  What it loves, is making you happy, being a clown, and hunting.

Beagles are great fun to show, as long as you understand their personality.  They also make very good pets, as they love pleasing people and are good with children.  I work very hard with my puppies to encourage confidence and an outgoing personality.

However, as an owner, you are the one who has the responsibility to make sure your dog is safe, (meaning a fenced in yard)  and healthy.  Beagles are a pack dog, so if you are eating, they would like to do it too.  They eat like children from some starving country.  Do Not be bequiled by this.  Beagles have soft pleading eyes, and it is easy for you to give in, and they become FAT.  When you let this happen, you have shortened the life of your dog, and also made the life it lives miserable.  Dogs do not speak to us, they have no advocate, only you to do the best you can to give them all the love and attention they deserve, and a good and healthy life-style.

As any responsible breeder, I want my babies to go to good homes.  So while you ask questions, so do I.  I like to keep in touch with you, love seeing the pictures of how your darling is sitting on your desk (you are a superintendent of schools) or is riding in your boat.

You can e-mail Sylvia  or call me.  I am happy to call you, I am friendly, and will answer as many of your questions as I can.  The people who have my puppies are happy with them, and more often than not, tell me how everyone comments on how great looking they are (which they are, by the way).  So feel free to get in touch.
